This Week

This week was super crazy we really looked into what we each thought said Tragedy. It was kindof weird because it seemed that we were confusing tragedy with mis fortune. Which are two different things. Tragedy is more when people do things that are so unfortunate and the person who is responsible does not even realize that what he did was wrong. Misfortune is more like a domino effect of that sucks moments.

It was actually kind of weird to hear like what people considered to be really unfortunate and tragic because often times i associate something being tragic by looking at how many people died or like how horrible that whole situation that they went through was.

We also talked about what makes something tragic. Like a really emotional dance, a really good song that has so much emotion rapped into it, a classical song, a film, a photograph, etc. Surprisingly a lot of people said that classical music can be really tragic. But honestly I  don’t think it is classical music that is tragic, because if you think about the music is just someone’s interpretation of whatever event that had happened so it is really more a film or picture.

  1. Hey Ser,
I also agree that I used to associate tragedy with death. Which I think, that in tregedies most of the time there is a death, but it doesn't always have to be that way. I'm not sure if you read the reading yet (for the tragedy project) but it define tragedy as somewhat being a good thing. The essay said that tragedy happens only after the person being affected, experienced something great which sometimes consequently follows tragedy. So now assume that tragedy can sometimes happen for the best of reasons.

I also agree (with your classmates) that classical music can express tragedy. For my project I'm actually going to play a classical song on the piano. I think that depending on the song and how it's played, it can exhibit a lot of emotion. Some Beethoven songs, tend to be very "loud" and "deep" and that's because at the time Beethoven was really just angry at the world, and a lot of that reflects in his music. On the contrary, I do have to say that I actually think a film or photograph BEST express tragedy.

  2. Serena,
I agree with you, I think that a lot of people associate tragedy with death. I think that people associate tragedy with death because death is worst pain that anyone can feel emotional, physically, and mentality. With the rest of the class that tragedy could be heard through classical music. The reason that classical music could resemble tragedy is through the emotions it brings out. Whenever a sad scene is shown on a movie it is not only the acting, lines, and setting that brings you to that sad part it is slowly wraps you into the scene. The music lefts you to believe what is going on and captivates the scene.

  3. I never really thought about how tragedy is associated with a photo or a song I guess I am still confused about the whole idea of what a tragedy is and also think of it as death or some type of misfortune.
